MEET OUR HOST
Meet Erik! He’s one of Food & Wine Magazine’s 2019 Sommeliers of the year and leads Wine Riot 2.0 as our Host Sommelier & Head of Educational Development. Erik founded his company, Somlyay, with the principal that wine can be fun, and to never stop learning. He is a noted journalist with many of the largest publications in the beverage business, and an enthusiastic educator of industry professionals and wine lovers alike. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to him, and come prepared to chat about all things wine with one of the best in the business!
Erik is an Advanced Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers, representing one of under 600 people in the world that currently hold this level of certification. He is also a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) through the Society of Wine Educators and a Wine and Spirits Locations Specialist (with distinction) for both Port and Champagne. Erik has been published numerous times in international wine publications, including Wine Spectator, Food and Wine Magazine, Wine Enthusiast, Somm Journal, Tasting Panel, Beverage Media and SevenFifty Daily. He recently won a competition in France, competing against 11 French and 9 American Sommeliers. Within the coming years Erik aspires to be added to the ranks of the fewer than 300 Master Sommeliers worldwide.
